What is a carrier tape reel?

Components and precision parts are packaged with the carrier
tape and wound to the carrier tape reel at the customer's
manufacturing site and are transported, stored, and used for
mounting by the surface mounter.
In some cases, it is also used for transporting parts and
work-in-process products within a manufacturing process.
